Mobile Service in Tbilisi

The organization expanded over time.
Several Centres were established to
address the needs of children working
in streets and risk group children, which appeared possible through the international humanitarian assistance and the support of local authorities. Meanwhile, the mobile team continues to collect children for these Centres. The team, made up of a psychologist, street educators and a social worker, establishes relations with vulnerable children to involve them in cooperation, provides psychological assistance and prepares some of the children for school.

At present, the team, made up of four specialists (two educators, a psychologist and a social worker), are working in the district of Lilo rendering assistance to thirty children aged 6 to 16.

In their places of gathering, the children are provided with sandwiches and hot tea, as well as clothes. Once a week, they are examined by a doctor working for the organization.

Comprehensive medical care provided by an interdisciplinary team of doctors in the Centres of Child and Environment is also extended to the children the mobile team. The mobile team takes care of the children’s hygiene as well.

The children attending school are assisted by educators and a psychologist in doing homework, filling knowledge gaps and addressing other learning-related problems. The dropout children are taught counting and reading/writing skills by the mobile team. They are supplied with notebooks, pencils, pens and books.

The children read fairy tales, stories about the history of Georgia and world wonders and receive answers to their questions thus obtaining essential information on the outside world.

The kids enjoy painting, clay modeling, and beadwork. Their works are regularly exhibited.

In the playgrounds, located in the places of gathering, the children play football, basketball, volleyball, and exercise on training equipment. They also enjoy skateboarding and roller skating. In summer they go swimming. Most of the children are boys, who are eager to expend their energy in games.

The children under the mobile team’s care attend circus performances, various festive events and go to the cinema.

The team workers arrange tours to various historical sites of Georgia. The children have already visited Mtskheta, Martkopi, Ninitsminda and been on sightseeing in Tbilisi.

Events aimed at the integration of these children with the children of other services of Child and Environment are held regularly.

The mobile team sets psychological diagnoses of children and provides them with psychological rehabilitation services. The team works with children in groups as well as individually. The lack of communication skills is the major problem faced in the work. The children are not accepted in the society, due to which they show lack of trust in people around them. Development of communication skills and gaining of trust are the major objectives of the team.

Children suffer psychic and behavioural disorders. Teachers apply development exercises and other psycho-rehabilitation methods to make the learning process interesting and enjoyable and to help the children in overcoming learning gaps. Thanks to their joint efforts, some of the children started or continued attending school.

These children, whose lives are themselves miserable, face problems at school, in their relations with their teachers and peers. The team’s psychologist and teacher assist them in overcoming these problems.
Special measures are taken to achieve the recovery and rehabilitation of substance abusers. Some of the problems in the children’s behaviour and character are determined by the bad psychological situation in the family. This points to the need of discussing the children’s problems with their parents and assisting the latter by providing consultation.

The Family Support Service studies the children’s family social and other conditions, if possible, and assists him/her to restore broken ties with family, to overcome problems with documentation etc.
